Rider of the Clouds
How The Initiative Began
On March 16, 2012, a 21 year old wonderful young man , John “Jack”
Santopietro died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle/motor vehicle collision.
The grieving mom & dad, Margaret & George Abrams felt an urgency to do
something that would bring motorcycle awareness to the community and
commemorate the lives of motorcyclists whose lives had been lost as a result of
motorcycle/motor vehicle accidents in hopes of decreasing motorcycle fatalities.
After much brainstorming, they decided to create 21 free-standing, life-sized
black wooden motorcycle figures, each one bearing the name of a motorcyclist who
once lived, worked, had neighbors, friends, family, children --whose life ended
tragically . They created “Rider of the Clouds” .
The Goal
The goal of Rider of the Clouds is to decrease
motorcycle fatalities by bringing awareness & education to communities on
motorcycle safety and the responsibilities of a motorist. The hope is to
eventually have all states participating in the “Rider of the
Clouds” initiative.
The Debut
The debut of Rider of the Clouds took place on July 14, 2012
